Since arriving from Naples Italy in 1981, Albasio La Pegna’s passion for food has been the main driving force behind all of his entrepreneurial achievements. In 1991 after developing an impressive reputation working in many of Perths top restaurants, Albasio embarked on his passion and fulfilled his vision by venturing out on his own. This began with the opening of Belissimo in Claremont, closely followed by Pronto in Claremont and Funtastico in Subiaco – all of which were developed into thriving, well recognised restaurants. In spite of moving on from these, each restaurant still continues to flourish with the signature La Pegna touch still preserved.

 

Albasio`s next venture was to bring about a restaurant with "real seafood",something that he felt Perth was in desperate need of.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The opportunity to bring this to fruition arose with the development of the perfect site – The Old Swan Brewery - which sits on Perth’s Swan River. Zafferano opening in 2001, earned Albasio the Knighthood of restaurant accolades - the Prix D’Honneur, one of the highest achievement awards to be earned within the restaurant industry and numerous Gold Plate accolades. The particular achievement categories were:
